The Works of the Holy Spirit, Part 2

"And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you forever." John 14:16 KJV

We see here that Christ promised another Comforter. One who would come in His stead after He ascended back to heaven. As I stated in my last article, there is a great confusion on the works of the Holy Spirit.

One of the main things is the misunderstanding of speaking in tongues. Tongues was not an ecstatic utterance, but an unknown language. It was a tool that was used to spread the gospel.

It was not to be done by women and only with an interpreter.

Now let’s look at what the true works of the Spirit are. We see first from our text that the Spirit will comfort.

Oh, what a blessed promise of comfort from the Holy Spirit. In times of sorrow and tribulation there is a peace and comfort that only comes from the Holy Spirit. We also see that He will abide with us forever. Also the Holy Spirit shall be in us.

If any man hath not the Spirit, he is none of His. All of the redeemed of the Lord have the Spirit within. Nowhere in the Bible is it taught for a saved person to seek the Holy Spirit.

In John 14:26 we see the Comforter teaches us all things.

The carnal man understandeth not the things of God. Unless you have the teacher within you will not know spiritual things.

In John 15:26 we see that the Spirit will testify of Christ. He will not magnify Himself, but point men to Christ.

In John 16:8 we see that the Spirit will reprove the world of sin. This is known as Holy Ghost conviction. This is when God begins the good work of salvation. He that believeth not is condemned already. Not only will the Holy Spirit convict of sin, He will also show the sinner true righteousness.

He will show the sinner of his need for the imputed righteousness of Christ. He will also show the sinner the eternal fire and judgment on unbelievers in hell.

He will guide us in all truth. He will speak to us what the Son and the Father would have us to hear. (John 16:13-14).

I praise my Lord Jesus Christ that I have the ministry of the Comforter in my heart.

Amen!
